As part of my build-up to the ultra cool event known as the Lockdown Fighting Championships (www.lockdownfc.com), where a mini submission wrestling tournament is held within a cage, I'm going to reveal the eight chosen fighters who will face off against each other to win the £1,000 grappling prize. Next fighter in the series is BJJ purple belt (under Roger Gracie), Daniel Strauss!
Q: Hey Daniel, please give us your age, weight, belt rank (if appropriate), MA styles etc:
A: 19, 80 kilos, purple belt, BJJ/submission wrestling.
Q: What is your fight record (gi, nogi, MMA etc)?
A: BJJ/Grappling: 69- 26 AM MMA: 2-0
Q: What is your finest grappling achievement?
A: Nogi world champion, Rio State champion, EFN fighter of the year 2008.
Q: What can people wno may never have seen submission wrestling or BJJ expect at the tournament?
A: Expect to see 8 highly skilled grapplers leaving it all on the mat to see who is the best on the day. Its gonna be fast, explosive and exciting.
Q: The 8 man division contains some top level fighters, who are you most looking forward to fighting against?
A: There are two black belts competing, I'm particularly looking forward to fighting them.
Q: Do you think you can adapt to the rule changes for the night?
A: Absolutely, the cage is a perfect arena for grappling in (I can do jumps of it and stuff...) and the allowance of slams means that on the off chance someone gets me in a sub I'm gonna pick them up and put them down hard.
Q: What will you do with the prize money?
A: Probably blow it all in one night out.
Q: Good luck and look forward to seeing you fight at the Submission 1000 tournament at the Lockdown FC.
A: Cheers, look forward to being there.
:)
