Submission 1000 is the mini-no-gi grappling event that takes part within the MMA tournament known as the Lockdown Fighting Championships. The forthcoming event, held at the Liquid and Envy Nightclub in Stevenage on the 2nd July promises to be even more thrilling than the first!
With less than a week to go, we continue our series of fighter biogs and interviews with Claudio Silva - a BJJ Black Belt who fights under London Shootfighters.
Q: Hi Claudio please tell us how long you have been training BJJ? And more about your team and jiu jitsu background?
A: I have been training since I was 16, first I trained under Paulo Rezende who was Marcello Garcia's teacher and then later under Robert Drysdale, Leo Vieira and Ricardo Vieira. Now I train with Alexis and Paul from London Shoot Fighters, training wrestling and MMA. They are developing my game in all areas,Ii am so happy to be part of this family.
Q: When did you receive your black belt and where are you teaching now?
A: I received my black belt last year from Leo Negao. I am teaching at Diesel Gym and London Shoot Fighters
Q: What is your fight record (MMA, gi, nogi) and what are your most memorable fights/wins?
A: In MMA my record is 8 wins and 1 no contest, all won in the first round by submission or TKO.asking me my record for Gi and Nogi is like asking Pele how many matches he has played in football, I can't remember, I have fought so many comps over the years. All of them, all are very important to me as all of my opponents have been very tough. Also last year when I fought 3 MMA fights in a row and never received a single punch to the face!
Q: How would you describe your fight style?
A: My results speak for themselves, I am always going for the submission, I always give the audience an exciting fight
Q: The Submission 1000 event features eight elite grapplers, who among the 8 are you looking forward most to fight?
A: I don't care who I fight, I just want to fight all of them and win the tournament.
Q: What will you do with the £2,000 prize money?
A: I will send the money to my family in Brazil
Q: How do you feel about (possibly) fighting a close friend and team mate?
A: It will be just one more fight,Ii do what I have to do, I am a fighter and so is he. It is nothing personal.
Q: I look forward to seeing you fight in July!
A: Thanks brother.
